SEE CALENDAR FOR EXACT CLASS TIMES AND SESSIONS! Class Descriptions:10 minute private lessons for 18mo-3yr olds I've decided to replace the parent/tot class with this 10 min version this year. These PRIVATE LESSONS work extremely well for children with fear of the water. This is a good deal if you think about it since each 10 min class is just over $11 and in a typical 30 min class 6 kids will take turns with other children, giving them about 5-6 min of one on one instruction. Parent participation is optional and please arrive 10 min early to get your child adjusted to the water in the jacuzzi. No food 1 hr before class and please have them in a swim diaper. They will learn water awareness, submerging, bubbles, floating, monkey walks, kicks, swim-rollover sequence, and strokes depending on the age. OPTIONAL: You are more than welcome to have them wear clothes and shoes rather than a swimsuit. The PROS OF 10 MIN PRIVATE LESSONS: They will be with me the entire time, This allows them exposure to the techniques with out being influenced by other children, There is less "commotion" in the pool area, They don't have time to get cold, and I can ask the parents to hide, if necessary, The transition to group lessons is easier on the child. DIVING BOARD CLASS- held at a friends house one street over from mine. Learn the basic dives which include hurdle, front, back, flips and twists. I dove for 7 years competitively and many have asked about this class. Space limited and ages 6-teenagers welcome Beginner(B): 2 yrs & up, independent water adjustment, floating, basic motor skills like kicking and arm reaches, fall into/exit water, swim-rollover sequence. A child that is 2 must have had either the 10 min private lessons with me or taken a parent-tot class to come in as a 2 yr old Beginner. Experienced Beginner(EB): freestyle, back and breast stoke, floating, jump in turn around, diving, rotary breathing technique and endurance. Intermediate & Advanced(IS&AS): all strokes, diving, endurance, flip turns for advanced. Policy Information
- Registration and tuition are due 2 weeks prior to starting class in order to make sure there are enough children in the class to open it and to hold your child´s spot in their class. A late fee of $5 will be assessed if payment is not received by then and I have the option of taking your child off the time slot you want to allow another child in on the waiting list. I have had too many people do this lately and it isn't fair to those who pay and want lessons. There is a $30 non-refundable deposit that comes out of your tuition if you cancel the first day of class and lessons quit during the session will not be pro-rated. A $15 charge will be applied to all returned checks.
- Class adjustments will be made after the first day to accommodate each child´s skill & ability level.
- If there is an emergency, please call me ASAP. No make-ups allowed unless prior arrangements are made and only then, one makeup class in the 2 week session missed.
- Please have your child´s hair up and out of face with proper swimwear, towel, shoes and sunblock for am classes. No floatation swimsuits, arm floaties or toys needed.
- Please do not arrive earlier than 5 min. prior to class due to limited space. Please remind your children to use the restroom and no gum during class. Please be respectful and not park in my neighbors driveways or in front of the MAILBOXES. For safety reasons, promptly pick your child up from class so that they are not wandering around.
- Parents are allowed to stay and watch during class but please keep an eye on any children you have with you. It has been my experience that the children do not participate as well when there is an audience. If your child is having a hard time with you there, please consider leaving to see how the child performs with out you there. Should a student act disrespectful to a peer or teacher, we reserve the right to remove the student from class and notify the parent(s).
- Sibling discount of $5 off two or more children as well as sessions-but you have to mention you saw it on this page, that way I know you read and understand the policy. :)
How long will it take my kids to learn to swim? Some people think if their kids can save themselves they know how to swim. I really believe every child should know their strokes and be able to swim for fitness. I have countless adults tell me they wish they learned to swim better, its a great non impact cardiovascular activity. When kids reach 3 or 4 years old they usually remember what they learned the year before if they swam all summer, home and lessons. I hesitate to say how long it will take because I feel most drownings occur because parents "think" their child can swim because they had lessons and then they become to comfortable and sometimes less observant. It should be a priority to have your kids in the pool as much as possible during the summer months so that they become more proficient swimmers. The best way to get better is practice, practice. Children under five and adolescents between the ages of 15-24 have the highest drowning rates. -American Academy of Pediatrics Of all preschoolers who drown, 70 percent are in the care of one or both parents at the time of the drowning and 75 percent are missing from sight for five minutes or less. -Fire authority In 10 states - Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington - drowning surpasses all other causes of death to children age 14 and under.-Fire authority
